MAPMG Dr. Nidhi Gupta on Who Inspired Her to Become a Neurologist

– My name is Nidhi Gupta. I’m one of the neurologists and I further specialize in the field of vascular neurology and
clinical neurophysiology. And I’m on of the Permanente physicians. The sub-specialization is in
the field of vascular neurology which basically pertains to patients who come with acute stroke. The other part of my specialization is the electrical activity of brain, which helps patients,
particularly in their diagnostic commonalities, and also these days to help them treat
conditions like epilepsy. My grandmother had a stroke, and after that she had
problems with memory. She developed dementia. We used to have physicians
come over to our place. I used to be observing. I was about in middle school. That just sparked the same in me and I was like I got to do this and do this for people who really need it. In my second fellowship
when I was exploring two job options, I wanted to join a system where I can work with multiple specialists. I can access patients’
records almost in real time. As a Permanente physician
we can provide care faster, way faster, especially when it comes to something which needs
cutting edge technology or needs multiple sub-specialties within neurology to work together. Being a Permanente physician gives me the ability to work as a team, the ability to keep my knowledge enhanced because other sub-specialists in neurology we work so much together that we get to enhance our knowledge every day.
